Our licensed psychotherapists are able to accept insurance.
**Please note that not all providers accept each insurance plan, so please reference our "Meet Our Providers" page to see which insurance your provider of choice accepts.**
We are currently in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Optum, UMR, and Aetna. We also provide super bills for anyone who may want to seek out-of-network reimbursement for insurances with whom we are not contracted.
Yes. "Therapist" is a blanket term for several different professions. Psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers, and counselors are all licensed individuals who can provide mental health and substance-abuse therapy. The difference is their educational background.
All True Direction Counseling clinicians hold either a state license and/or a national certification.
Our psychotherapists/counselors all hold licenses with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE). They are licensed in one of the following professions: counselors, clinical social workers, or marriage and family therapists. Some of our psychotherapists have additional certifications recognized at the national level, such as Board Certified Counselors (NCC) and Registered Play Therapists (RPT).
Alli Walker, our art therapist, holds a national certification for art therapy.
All of our therapists have completed master's degrees in their respective fields of study.

First, it is important to note that not every issue can be addressed through video counseling. Anyone who is currently experiencing thoughts of self-harm or has a significant history of suicidal thoughts or thoughts of self-injury needs to be seen in-person.
Second, you must have access to a reliable internet connection. You also need a web camera accessible device that also has a microphone. I utilize a system that allows you to use your computer or an app for your phone or tablet.
Third, if you plan to use insurance, you need to identify if your insurance allows telehealth services. Not all insurance companies do and some that do allow telehealth require their participants to use a specific platform. I do my best to verify these benefits, but ultimately it is the client's responsibility to know their insurance coverage.
If you have any questions as to whether video counseling is a good fit for you, please don't hesitate to contact us for more information
Absolutely! Much of Megan's relationship counseling experience has been with LGBTQ+ couples. She also has experience working with non-traditional relationships, such as open marriages and polyamory. All True Direction providers who provide relationship counseling are open to working with couples of all types and demographics.
Open Path is an organization that assists those with a financial need or without insurance to connect with therapists who offer reduced rates. We are passionate about affordable healthcare, so Megan has partnered with Open Path to provide reduced fee services to those without insurance or with high deductibles/copays. You can learn more by clicking any of the Open Path Collective logos on my website.
"I have had the pleasure to work alongside Megan as a counselor for several years. She is one of the most passionate and caring therapists I have met. Her counseling style is honest, humorous, and empathetic, but more than that she works hard to make sure her clients have the resources and support they need to be successful outside the therapy session. She ardently believes people have the ability to change for the better and creates a safe space to help facilitate this change. She is an excellent therapist who truly cares about her work."
"I am extremely grateful for having Megan as a peer, colleague, and friend for many years. Megan approaches therapy and life with a passion, honesty, and open-mindedness that is infectious. Megan believes in her clients' ability to create a better life for themselves, and she makes it her goal to create a safe space for clients to believe in themselves. I have learned and grown a lot through my working relationship with Megan as she encourages everyone around her to be the best version of themselves. Megan's willingness to accompany and support clients through various challenges and stressors makes her an amazing therapist and an asset to the mental health community."
"I was fortunate enough to meet Megan when she mentored me through my internship. I quickly learned that Megan facilitates her clients' healing, self-exploration, and growth in a completely non-judgmental environment. Her ability to challenge those she encounters with genuine compassion is what allows them to achieve change and live a more full and authentic life. Megan comes with a wealth of knowledge that she uses to tailor her treatments to each individual she sees and she does so with an unconditional respect for everyone who walks through her door. She approaches her work with true integrity and passion that is felt by her clients and colleagues. I have strived to carry this from Megan to my current practice and am so thankful to have had the pleasure of learning from her. She is my dear friend and a trusted colleague."
